Star Trek: Countdown #2 Review
posted by Jay Cochran at 07:59:15 on 03/12/09

Star Trek: Countdown #2Rating:

Now one thing this title has going for it that most movie tie-in books don’t is that it is actually being written by the same guys who wrote the story for the movie, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtman. If they can’t come up with a compelling story to lead us into the new movie, then who could?

I have to say that the weakest part of this title seems to be David Messina’s art. It’s not terrible but often times the characters expressions just come off somewhat goofy looking. I do enjoy seeing the updates made to the Next Generation Universe we get to see throughout the title and David’s depictions of the ships and tech look good, it’s just some of his character facial expressions he seems to struggle with at times. Giovanna Niro’s coloring also helps with the overall look and feel of the title.

It seems to me that the point for any type of movie prequel title should be to get you excited about the movie it is laying the ground work for which this title seems to be doing a very good job of, the only downside I see here is that it makes me wish that some of this story had made it into the actual movie instead of just having to read it as a comic book. Look for issue #2 of this 4-part movie prequel series on comic book store shelves now. The new Star Trek movie from Paramount opens in theaters on May 8, 2009.
