Arcana Studio Gets Daring? Dirk the Daring!
posted by Jay Cochran at 07:20:07 on 05/16/06
![]() Dirk the Daring, the bumbling yet heroic knight, returns to comics in the thrilling conclusion of the Dragon?s Lair series from Arcana Studio. Andy Mangels, Fabio Laguna, James Offredi, and Bill Tortolini will be returning to finish the tale they set out to create back in 2003 for MV Creations. Originally, three issues (of six) were released under the CGE imprint, but the remaining three issues were never completed. Arcana Studio is now releasing a collection of those three CGE issues and then is releasing the never before seen last three issues. Arcana Editor-In-Chief, Sean O'Reilly, a fan of the Dragon's Lair video game series, jumped at the chance to publish the remaining issues. O'Reilly said, "I loved the series and loved the game and MV Creations did an amazing job of translating something so fun into a fantastic read!" The idea of bringing back the original creative team was a no-brainer for O'Reilly who stated, "We don't feel you can improve of the level of quality that MV Creations has set." The Dragon's Lair video game was created in 1983 by Cinematronics and legendary Disney animator Don Bluth. In this animated game, the player assumed the role of Dirk the Daring, a heroic knight armed with a sword. Dirk searches through the Haunted Castle in an attempt to rescue the beautiful Princess Daphne from the evil dragon, Singe. In order for Dirk to accomplish his goal, he must reach the Dragon's Lair. As he travels, he encounters all kinds of obstacles to overcome. Along the way he must battle the Lava Monsters, Giddy Goons, Crypt Creeps, the Lizard King, the Grim Reaper, and the Black Knight. Dragon's Lair is only one of three video games in the Smithsonian Institute and has spawned merchandise, video game sequels, and it's very own Saturday morning cartoon. Now, it can add comic book to its resume. Travel to a time of Sword and Sorcery; a time of Dragons and Damsels in distress! Follow Dirk the Daring and Princess Daphne as they return from an astonishing adventure in the Free Realms only to be attacked by the great dragon, Singe, and his evil minions. The series kicks off from Arcana Studio with the triple sized first issue (collecting the 3 MV Creations issues) for $4.95. This first issue has a new cover by the legend himself, Don Bluth! Dragon's Lair #1 is available now for preordering through Diamond Comics Preview Ordering Code MAY062869.
